Lower Elementary Director
Ms. Julie is trained and accredited through the North American Montessori Centre for the Lower Elementary, Casa, and Infant/ Toddler programs. She has also attained a B.Sc. and a B.Ed at the University of Saskatchewan. She has taught in a Montessori classroom as a director for 10 years and has also taught in the public system for 7 years. Ms. Julie is the founder of Brilliant Star Montessori School and has lead our staffing team as our Administrator since our first year. Ms. Julie also writes Montessori articles for the North American Montessori Training Centre and has many of her pieces published on their website. She has nineteen years of experience coaching children (kayak, canoe, swimming, soccer, volleyball, and track and field). She has coached on a local, provincial, and national level for the sport of sprint canoe and kayak. Ms. Julie has also taught as an instructor at the Ecology Club for Kids for three years in Saskatoon and has received her facilitator training and certification in the Virtues Project, which is a course on Character Building Education for families and schools. Ms. Julie’s passion and enthusiasm for the Montessori philosophy and The Virtues Project guides her in her roles in our school.
Ms. Susan is trained and accredited through the North American Montessori Centre for the Casa (preschool and kindergarten) program. She has sixteen years of experience teaching in a Montessori classroom. Ms. Susan has been an integral part of the creation of Brilliant Star Montessori since its inception as cofounder and has been given the role of Senior Directress in our school. She has taken training in the Virtues Program, which is a course on Character Building Education for families and schools and was also involved in volunteer work with the ‘Read Saskatoon’ Program for illiteracy. Ms. Susan has Advanced level Ballet training in the ‘Royal Academy of Dance’ and performed with a professional dance company in Montreal. Ms. Susan has fifteen years experience teaching ballet and jazz, including the opportunity of teaching children dance at an International School in Papua New Guinea for a year. Ms. Susan has also operated and taught in her own school, “The Asquith Dance Workshop’, for 8 years. She has lived on a family farm for the last 33 years and has been actively involved in the farm work and is proactive for wildlife and our environment as a member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.
Elementary Junior Director
Ms. Alisha is studying with the North American Montessori Centre to obtain her Lower Elementary Director training and is thrilled to join the Brilliant Star Montessori team this year. She graduated from St. Thomas University in New Brunswick with a B.Ed and a 4-year B.A in English (concentration in Drama and Psychology). Ms. Alisha has 2 years of teaching experience in the Saskatchewan public school system as a Grade 1 Teacher. She has also worked as a English as a Second Language Teacher at the University of New Brunswick’s English Language Program. Ms. Alisha enjoys volunteering in her community and has spent time volunteering with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, The Boys and Girls Club, and Autism Services. She has a keen interest in theatre with 13 years experience and enjoys singing in choirs as well as playing the clarinet. Ms. Alisha is really enjoying working with the children and families at Brilliant Star Montessori School this year and has already become an invaluable member of our staffing team.
Elementary Physical Education Instructor
Ms.Lynzie graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.Sc. majoring in Kinesiology with Great Distinction. Through the years, she has been involved with physical activity programs for children of varying ages and abilities. Some of these programs include PAAL (Physical Activity for Active Living), Special Olympics and teaching dance for 7 years. She has taken training through "The National Coaching Certification Program" and "Sports Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan" for multi-sport training and safety certifications. Ms. Lynzie was the Physical Education Instructor at our school in 2012/2013. She is an energetic individual who is passionate about a healthy lifestyle and having fun through physical activity. She is overjoyed to be returning to the Brilliant Star Montessori school community this year and we are thrilled to have her return to our staffing team as well.
Morning Casa Assistant and Extended Care Supervisor Morning Casa Music Director
Ms. Goya has completed her Montessori Assistant training as well as certification for Music and Art in Montessori from The Centre for Guided Montessori Studies. Ms. Goya also received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Tamkang University in Taipei, Taiwan and completed her ECE (Early Childhood Education) Certificate through SIAST. She has worked with children for over 17 years in Kindergarten and Elementary schools and was also an EFL teacher overseas. Ms. Goya has also had the opportunity to volunteer at Brunskill Elementary School and Saskatchewan Intercultural Association in Saskatoon. She has been working on Decorative Painting for over 10 years and has acquired a teaching certificate. Ms. Goya has also been a Recreation/Fitness Program Instructor for fall and winter Seasons at the Shaw Centre in Saskatoon. Ms. Goya is a valuable member of our staffing team with five years of experience on our staffing team at Brilliant Star Montessori School.
Afternoon Casa Assistant and Aftercare Supervisor
Ms. Nina did her Casa Montessori training program at Montessori St Nicholas, London, England and worked at the Gt Ellingham Montessori School in Norfolk for 2 years before moving to do volunteer work in Panama for 6 years. She is a qualified RN and took her Nurses training in B.C. followed by many years’ experience working with Acute Care and helping families with health and wellbeing counseling as well as Practice Nursing in England. Ms. Nina speaks Spanish fluently and has training and experience in the Virtues Program, which is a course on Character Building Education for families and schools. While in Central America she worked for the British Foreign Office at the British Embassy helping coordinate Foreign Students Scholarships and International Film Festivals and Fares. Most recently Ms. Nina has been supervising and training refugees in basic work practices and food safety certifications as well as helping them with their English language skills and cultural adjustments. Her first love has always been working with children. Ms. Nina has subbed in our school for a couple years now and she is very happy to have joined our Brilliant Star staffing team this year.
Ms. Vikki comes to us from Prince Albert, with her family, where she spent the past 8 years working as an administrative assistant in an Elementary school. Before joining the Prince Albert school division, she operated a private daycare out of her home gaining years of childcare experience. She is excited to start this new chapter of her life with Brilliant Star Montessori this year and has enjoyed becoming acquainted with all our families and students. She has volunteered over the years in various roles with her children’s activities and spent 5 years serving as secretary on her community club board. She is married with 2 adult children of her own, both of whom are attending the University of Saskatchewan.
